Testimonial - The Waloon Agricultural Research Center (CRA-W)at Gembloux, Belgium, tested the Amylab FN of CHOPIN Technologies

In a humid maritime climate, evaluating the Hagberg falling number is of paramount importance in the receipt of cereals and more particularly milling wheat. Also, quick and precise measurement of this criteria are necessary to allow adequate allotment.

The Amylab FN has been tested and evaluated in the laboratory of the Agricultural Research Center, CRA-W (Belgium) during the summer of 2017.

The installation of the device is very fast. The Amylab FN can simply be placed on a work surface in any laboratory, or in storage agencies reception areas as its induction heating system does not require the use of cooling fluid. Compared to systems currently on the market, the Amylab FN is distinguished by the use of aluminum tubes in place of the traditional glass tubes, which reduces the risk of breakage and injury. Cleaning the tubes, which have removable bases, is simplified.
Controlled by a simple touch interface, this device is easy to use and has been quickly mastered by the operators.
Sample preparation steps prior to the actual analysis (weighing, corrections of the samples taken as a function of the water content) are identical to the usual method. The results obtained, in comparison with the laboratory reference method, have shown strong correlation in the range of values tested (110 - 280 seconds). “As far as repeatability is concerned, the devices show performances perfectly in line with ISO 3093." CRA-W, Gembloux, Belgium.


In conclusion, the Amylab FN is fully suitable for everyone who evaluates the receipt of cereal lots. It has been quickly adopted by operators and the results are perfectly comparable to the traditional Hagberg method.

Given the climatic changes at the time of harvest, Amylab FN is a good tool for measuring the endogenous enzymatic activity associated with the level of standing germination.
